Voices for the noises

IMGP0073

I wrote these lyrics on a songwriting retreat with Steve Tilston and Christine Collister, and have just about found the music to go with it. It’s quite liberating for me to write a strong song. This one is channelling Patti Smith and Karen Dalton in the way I sing it. It would be great to have some animalistic sonic layers behind the voice.

I hear the voice of a shy young girl

When I speak my stronger mind

I use the voice that was given to me

by my mother and her kind

Because I can’t control my better self

It keeps me well behind

And my ear bones tire of sorry and please

Till I want to find more wild…

Voices for the noises

that are raging deep in me

Oh the cries and the rejoices

that are seething silently

I will control my better self

I can still keep my better self

In the place it better be, better be

..

I’ll borrow the song of the wind in the trees

to carry low across the hills

I’ll snatch the cry of an eagle high

Swooping low down for its kill

I’ll take the bark of a mothering wolf

And I’ll use it at my will

Cos my ear bones tired of sorry and please

And I’m out to find more wild…

..

Voices for the noises

that are raging deep in me

The cries and the rejoices

that are seething silently

I will control my better self

I can still keep my better self

In the place it better be, better be
